How to export your bank statement as CSV: every major UK bank

Updated 31 October 2026 · Rowclean

Every UK bank gives you PDF statements, but CSV or Excel exports vary a lot: some cap the rows, some only cover the last year, and some only offer CSV on business accounts. This table is built from each bank's own help pages.

The pattern: statements outlive exports

PDF statements go back years (7 at Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest and Santander), while CSV exports are capped by months or rows. So for a year-end, a tax return, a new client's catch-up or a Making Tax Digital update, older periods usually mean working from PDFs.

CSV is not always a statement

Turning a PDF statement into CSV

Whatever the bank, check any conversion the same way: previous balance + money in − money out should equal the printed balance on every line. A missed or doubled row shows up immediately.

Only have the PDF statement?

Rowclean turns it into a CSV in your browser (nothing is uploaded), shows every row with its page and line, and checks the running balance to the penny before you pay. £4 a statement, no subscription.

Questions

Can I download my bank statement as a CSV file?

Usually yes for recent transactions, from desktop online banking (Santander, NatWest, Nationwide, Monzo, Starling) or business banking (Lloyds). Older periods are normally PDF only.

How can I convert a bank statement to CSV format?

Export from online banking if the period is covered. Otherwise convert the PDF: Excel's Get Data › From PDF for simple layouts, or a statement converter that keeps rows together and checks the balance.

Which format do Xero and QuickBooks need?

Xero UK needs Date and a signed Amount; QuickBooks UK takes 3 or 4 columns with dd/mm/yyyy dates. See the Xero and QuickBooks guides.
