How to download Barclays statements in CSV format
Updated 31 October 2026 · Rowclean
Barclays lets you export recent transactions as a CSV file from desktop Online Banking, but not from the app, and not for older periods. For anything else you have the PDF statement. Here is each route and its limits.
Quick answer
- Log in to Barclays Online Banking on a computer (the export isn't in the app).
- Open the account and choose Show recent transactions.
- Scroll to the bottom and choose View all transactions.
- Set the date range and press Search.
- Choose Export All, then CSV (OFX and QIF are also offered).
Barclays' own help pages don't document this export; these steps are the route described by accountants' and software providers' guides (ExpensePlus, Dead Simple Accounting), February and January 2026.
What the CSV export won't give you
- Older transactions. Guides report the export only reaches back a few months (around 3 to 6). Barclays keeps statements far longer, but as PDFs.
- Dates with a year. The CSV can write dates as "15 Dec" with no year, so check them before importing a period that crosses New Year.
- An app route. In the app you can download statements, but only as PDF.
How far back Barclays statements go
From Barclays' help pages: online statements are available for up to 7 years while the account is open, and up to 5 years for a closed account while you still bank with Barclays. Electronic copies were added automatically from July 2013. You'll find them under Manage accounts › Statements and documents in Online Banking, or Help › Statements in the app, and Barclays saves them as PDF.
Turning an older PDF statement into CSV
When the export doesn't reach back far enough, the PDF statement is the record you have. You can:
- Copy and paste or use Excel's Get Data › From PDF. It works on text PDFs but often splits or merges rows, so add a check column: previous balance + money in − money out should equal each printed balance.
- Use a converter that checks the balance for you. Rowclean has a reader for Barclays statements, shows every row before you pay, and exports in the layout Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent or Sage expects.
Rowclean turns it into a CSV in your browser (nothing is uploaded), shows every row with its page and line, and checks the running balance to the penny before you pay. £4 a statement, no subscription.
Convert a Barclays PDF statementImporting the CSV into accounting software
- Xero: one signed Amount column, header in row 1, no balance columns. Xero layout.
- QuickBooks UK: 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount), dd/mm/yyyy, up to 1,000 lines per upload. QuickBooks layout.
- FreeAgent: no header row, dd/mm/yyyy, one signed amount. FreeAgent layout.
- Sage: Date, Description, Amount, one account per file. Sage layout.
